Bisphenol A, commonly abbreviated as BPA, is an organic compound, and is a building block of poly carbonate bottles, most commonly used by water companies.
There has been recent media attention focused towards the safety poly carbonate bottles, most commonly used for bottled water. The concern is in the potential levels of BPA that may leach into water from the bottles. In response to this pressure, Health Canada recently performed their own studies and concluded that poly carbonate bottles ARE safe for use, and not a concern for consumers.
In Health Canada's statement released on 18 October 2008, Health Canada noted that “bisphenol A exposure to newborns and infants is below levels that cause effects” and that the “general public need not be concerned”.
